The global increase in air cargo operations means a continuous demand for work-ready skills in aviation. In response to these insights, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s College of FET has developed a partnership with Atlantic Aviation Group, offering industry-responsive traineeships to empower you for a career in aviation.

We offer a range of Further Education and Training programmes, such as the Aircraft Maintenance Licence Traineeship and the Aircraft Structures Technician Traineeship, to develop and enhance your skills. These full-time, fully-funded traineeships can provide a pathway to employment and further learning.

If you have any concerns about returning to learning, you will be reassured by the extensive support package that you will receive on this traineeship. Aircraft Maintenance Licence Traineeship

This two-year traineeship will provide you with the skills and knowledge required for an EASA Part 66 Cat A1 Aircraft Maintenance Licence. You will be equipped with essential skills to work competently and safely within an aircraft maintenance environment.

Progression / Employment Opportunities

Upon successful completion, you can seek employment in Aircraft Maintenance. You will be able to apply for an EASA Cat A Aircraft Maintenance Licence, and this can be upgraded to a B1/B2 with more assessments and experience.

Aircraft Structures Technician Traineeship

This 2-year traineeship will empower you with knowledge and in-demand skills to perform maintenance and repairs work on aircraft structures. You will work with modern aircraft materials such as aluminum alloys, carbon fibre and titanium. You will evaluate damage to aircraft structures, identify and perform repairs to aircraft metallic and composite structures.

Progression / Employment Opportunities

On successful completion, you can seek employment as an Aircraft Structures Technician. As you qualify and gain experience in this career you will have the opportunity to progress into supervisory and inspection roles.

This traineeship is based in Shannon, County Clare.

Each traineeship takes approximately 2 years, combining learning in an education and training setting and in the workplace with our industry partner Atlantic Aviation Group. 

Yes, these traineeships are full-time and delivered Monday to Friday in Shannon, County Clare.

The selection process includes an aptitude test for:

  • Numerical Reasoning
  • Spatial Awareness
  • Manual Dexterity
  • Colour Vision

You will also be required to undergo a hand skills test, interview, medical assessment and Garda/Security vetting.

If you are in receipt of a social welfare payment, such as Job Seeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board take over the payment for the duration of the programme and it is paid weekly as a training allowance. You would need to be in receipt/have made a claim for a Social Welfare payment before the programme starts.

If you are not in receipt of a DSP payment you will not get any weekly allowance, with the exception of a travel or accommodation allowance where applicable.

If you are in receipt of the PUP payment, you have to switch and make a claim for Job Seekers before starting the programme.
