The film industry has enjoyed significant growth over the past few years in the Mid-West, with the arrival of global production facilities and new and emerging film writers, directors, producers and crew. Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and Innovate Limerick through Film in Limerick have developed a partnership to deliver industry-responsive training initiatives and events to help further develop the film industry in the region.

In response to industry insights, we offer a range of Further Education and Training programmes to empower you with work-ready skills for a career in film and TV. These programmes help develop and enhance your skills and provide a pathway to a career in the screen industry.

We are currently offering a range of Prop-Making, Prosthetics and Modelmaking programmes to empower you with work-ready skills for a career in film and TV. Our industry partner, Odyssey Studios, deliver these. See below for more information on all programmes on offer.

Current Programmes

Prosthetic MakeUp

Date: Monday 7th to Friday 11th March

This 5-day programme, delivered by Odyssey Studios, will cover sculpting, moulding and fabrication of gel-filled appliances and prosthetic transfer material. The programme will also cover flat mould prosthetics.

Prop-Making 

Date:  Monday 21st to Friday 25th March

This 5-day programme, delivered by Odyssey Studios, will focus on prop design, moulding and casting hero, fight and stunt weapon fabrication. The programme will also cover painting, weathering and ageing techniques.

Sci-Fi Miniature Modelmaking 

Date:  Monday 28th March to Friday 1st April

This 5-day programme will cover the design and fabrication of a sci-fi miniature model from concept to construction. This workshop, delivered by Odyssey Studios, will focus on key techniques such as vacuum forming, fabrication of sheet materials, moulding and casting. Additional topics to be covered include miniature painting and weathering techniques used to create the illusion of realism and scale.

Introduction to Creative Producing for Film

QQI Level 5 Minor Award in Multimedia Project Development

This 5-month part-time programme will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings online, with some Saturday workshop sessions. The programme is fully-funded and will give would-be creative producers who have an interest in working on TV series and feature films the chance to showcase and develop their talents.

You will be led by Oscar-winning producer John McDonnell whose credits include ‘Vivarium’ starring Jesse Eisenberg and Irish language film ‘Arracht’.

Focus will be placed on developing crucial production skills including script-editing, funding schemes for shorts and first features, budgeting and scheduling, production, legal issues, distribution, preparing projects for financing, introduction to filmmakers and pitching, to name just a few.

Progression / Employment Opportunities

On successful completion, you will receive a QQI Level 5 Minor Award in Multimedia Project Development. Not only will you gain a foundation in the script-to-screen process, you will also acquire the skills needed to produce a funded short at a high level. This will place you in a strong position to prepare your own projects for financing, work in a production company or further your learning.
