The global increase of air cargo operations means there is a continuous demand for skilled Aircraft Structures Technicians. In response to industry insights, we are offering a fully-funded 21-month traineeship to empower you with work-ready skills for a career in aviation. You will receive on-the-job training by our industry partner, Atlantic Aviation Group, and off-the-job training at our College of Further Education and Training Shannon Campus. Aircraft Structures Technician Traineeship

This 21-month traineeship will empower you with knowledge and in-demand skills to perform maintenance and repairs work on aircraft structures. You will work with modern aircraft materials such as aluminum alloys, carbon fibre and titanium. You will evaluate damage to aircraft structures, identify and perform repairs to aircraft metallic and composite structures.

Progression / Employment Opportunities

On successful completion, you can seek employment as an Aircraft Structures Technician. As you qualify and gain experience in this career you will have the opportunity to progress into supervisory and inspection roles.

Aircraft Structures Technicians are specifically skilled in carrying out inspections of aircraft structures and removing and repairing damaged sections using aircraft repair and fastening techniques.

You will learn on-the-job skills and knowledge to enable you to carry out structural inspection, maintenance and repairs of aircraft. On successful completion of your traineeship, you will be competent to EASA standards in maths, physics and other specified EASA modules and will be qualified to seek employment as an Aircraft Structures Technician.

This traineeship is based in Shannon, County Clare.

This is an 21-month traineeship, combining learning in an education and training setting and in the workplace with our industry partner Atlantic Aviation Group. 

Yes, this traineeship is full-time and delivered Monday to Friday in Shannon, County Clare.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Junior Certificate education or equivalent
  • Have good spatial/numerical ability
  • Have an aptitude for working in a mechanical environment
  • Possess good written/verbal skills
  • Be a team player

The selection process includes an aptitude test for:

  • Numerical Reasoning
  • Spatial Awareness
  • Manual Dexterity
  • Colour Vision

You will also be required to undergo a hand skills test, interview, medical assessment and Garda/Security vetting.

If you are in receipt of a social welfare payment, such as Job Seeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board take over the payment for the duration of the programme and it is paid weekly as a training allowance. You would need to be in receipt/have made a claim for a Social Welfare payment before the programme starts.

If you are not in receipt of a DSP payment you will not get any weekly allowance, with the exception of a travel or accommodation allowance where applicable.

If you are in receipt of the PUP payment, you have to switch and make a claim for Job Seekers before starting the programme.
